Brian McAleese was a NYC firefighter with Engine Company 226 in Brooklyn.
Brian was a kind, generous, compassionate and caring man. He was a husband and the father of four children aged 5, 4, 2 years and 4 months.
Brian was a true friend to many.
Brian loved life. He knew life was a treasure. Brian knew what it sometimes takes people a lifetime to realize, that life is short-treasure your valuables-your life, your health, the ones you love. Not material objects for material objects are replaceable. The items of true value are irreplaceable.
On 9/11/01, many treasures were lost. Brian lost his life while saving lives at the World Trade Center. Brian; was treasured by many.
Who Brian was made a difference, throughout his life. Not just on 9/11. He never knew how many people he touched, how many people he helped, how very grateful so many were to and for him. He never gave it a thought. He never did anything to receive something back. He gave of himself. He gave his time- he took the time.
Brian loved people. He was happy to help; whether it was with a helping hand or a listening ear.
Brian did so very many things, without fanfare, without recognition.
In the wake of the tragedy, together, Brian's wife Dawn, friends and fellow firefighters, Peter Chiodo & Peter Culkin established the Brian G. McAleese Memorial Foundation; a charitable organization.
They, along with the help of Brian's fellow firefighters at Engine 226, and friends, wish to continue on Brian's acts of kindness and goodwill in his honor. As well, to help Brian's children remember their father and his life, not only the tragedy of his death.
The Foundation has established scholarship awards in Brian's name at Nassau Community College, Baldwin Senior High School, Plaza School in Baldwin and as well, Lenox School in Baldwin.
It is our mission and our hope that Brian's memory continues to live, continues to give and continues to touch the individual as well as the many; just has Brian always had.
